biography

Örsten is a French-Finnish 29 year old musician. His first album ‘Cutworks’ will be released by Pschent in 2010. Various influences can be distinguished on this album, Music from 1970’s cinema, hip-hop & classical piano amongst others.

The title of his album comes from the use of cut and paste. This technique is the basis of this musician’s work and then he superimposes synthesisers and melancholic vocals.
Through the meshes of the somber groundwork laid by Orsten (Mediatainment, War, Don't Make Me Shout) sharp gleams of hope spout out here and there (Long Story Short, Between Night and Evening).
This is an album that merits attention.

In 1993, at the age of 13, Orsten discovered American hip-hop and became very passionate about it. Two years later he started using his computer for samples. A music autodidact, he created rap instrumentals for various groups (notably Casseurs de Silence) and electronic pieces influenced by the original scores from 60’s & 70’s cinema.

In 2002 he joined the label Menthe Productions as a duo, ‘La Casa Menthe’, and produced two house maxi vinyl’s which were released in 2003.
Following this success, La Casa Menthe performed live with the jazz accordion player Ludovic Beier at the summer festival in Parc de La Villette in 2003.

At the beginning of 2004 Orsten released his first solo maxi: Airport Taxi. In parallel he collaborated with Clotilde Viannay, a plastician artist.

In June 2005, he produced music for the TV ad Proléa.
